The Best Of J.Crew: Coats, Sweaters & Blazers (2024)

I rarely shop at J.Crew during the warm months. I’ve wanted to try their swimsuits for a while but always forget. However, fall and winter? I can’t help myself.

I’ve realized that getting a new J. Crew coat has become a tradition of mine. Two years ago, I fell in love with this topcoat — a favorite to layer over my biker jacket or a blazer. Then last year, this classic tailored coat was the perfect addition to my “cold-weather mom wardrobe” to make my leggings look sophisticated.

So today, I’m bringing you warm, easy sweaters, coats in pretty colors, and blazers to level up those casual outfits or to quickly throw on for a Zoom call.

Let’s Start With These 3 Amazing J.Crew Sweaters…

1. J.Crew Mockneck Sweater in Supersoft Yarn

Laura and Scotti have been raving about the supersoft yarn. I now know why; they’re deliciously soft and warm!!!! Here are some great colors in this mock neck style.

How many colors is ok to have in one sweater? Asking for a friend. I’m obsessed with the fit, rib details and color options. This one is a keeper for me.

Same delicious yarn but with a high-low hem and turtleneck.

Supersoft Mockneck & Turtleneck Differences:

• Sleeve seam: The mock neck has a set-in sleeve, while the turtleneck has a raglan sleeve. The raglan is great if you have shoulders wider than your hips or want to narrow your shoulders. I went a size up in the mock neck to get a slightly dropped sleeve, something I like to do to widen my shoulders and look more slender. But I want to get the size down to see how the seam hitting my shoulder line would look.

• Ribbed details: Notice the sleeves. The mockneck sweater has a wider rib compared to the turtleneck.

• Length: While both are hip-length, the turtleneck has a high-low hem making it seem longer. The mock neck has a wide rib hem that is easy to fold in for a cropped look. I love that.

• Of course, the neck. I love the mock neck for my average to a short neck. I found it hard to accommodate the long turtleneck even when folded.

3. J.Crew Cashmere Leopard Print Sweater

I loved the merino wool version so much that I decided to try this one in cashmere for the coldest months. If you’ve seen the merino wool one, the print is slightly different, but both are gorgeous.

The Battle Of The J.Crew Blazers

While many have gone nuts looking for loungewear, more and more, I’ve had the big desire to find a versatile blazer. One I can wear with a sweater, jeans, and sneakers/boots to look more polished, or I can throw on for a Zoom call if needed quickly — sweatpants on the bottom and all. I have my high hopes for J.Crew because they carry petite sizing. As much as I love oversized blazers, it’s a look I don’t like for my body height and shape.

1. J.Crew Parke Blazer in Wool Flannel

Meet my new love. I can confidently say this is the perfect blazer for Petites, and the perfect blazer for anyone looking for a timeless, high-quality blazer.

Now, which color? Of course, if you’re not into brown or camel, you can find it in black, navy and pink. By the way! — I might need a size up for a slightly oversized look.

2. J.Crew Boyfriend Blazer in Plaid Italian Stretch Wool

Look. at. this. plaid. This is J.Crew’s take on a boyfriend blazer. The fit overall is good if you don’t like any tailoring in the back. I’d rather have a slight nipping, so I’m considering if it’s worth keeping it and making that alteration. What do you say?

3. J.Crew Sophie Open Front Sweater Blazer

I own the solid camel version. It’s beautiful, and my favorite way to wear it is over a bodysuit and high-rise jeans. This year I couldn’t resist ordering it in this chevron. I like the color, but I’m not sure about having another with this same straight relaxed fit. I’m not a huge fan of the shapeless back.

4. Juliette Collarless Sweater Blazer

Another sweater blazer worth trying. I adore the collarless lapel and effortless look, and it seems like a perfect layer to throw over a sweater for extra warmth and feel more put together — something I look for working from home. This one drapes better than the Sophie Blazer above.

Sizing is not very petite friendly though. It was down to my knees.

Coats To Dress Up & Down

J.Crew Chateau Parka in Italian Stadium Cloth

The way it falls seamlessly over the body without an oversized fit, the wool, details, hood? This can quickly become the best mom coat. The color didn’t disappoint. I loved how it made my eyes pop right away.

Coat (Petite 2) | Blue sweater | Animal print sweater

While I loved it, the style wasn’t what I expected for me. I didn’t like where it hit my legs making me look shorter and wider. It really depends on your body type and style. I’ll keep my search for a rich brown coat.

J.Crew Classic Lady Coat

This is hands down my favorite coat — the exact one I own in beautiful mustard. The classic, sophisticated style gives life to all my outfits and makes me feel confident even if I’m wearing leggings and a sweater.

The first light green is not as bright as it looks on the website. It’s a slightly muted and lively color that would look beautiful on many complexions (not me, lol). But I’m obsessed with the dark green option. I’m crossing my fingers it comes back in stock in my petite size.
