What’s at stake: The final conference meeting in the rivalry’s history comes with national implications. Oregon is playing for a spot in the Pac-12 Championship game and to stay in contention for a spot in the College Football Playoff. While it’s still possible for UO to reach the conference title game with a loss, it would take Arizona State defeating Arizona. So for all intents and purposes this is all or nothing for the Ducks. Bo Nix’s Heisman candidacy will be impacted significantly by how he performs against a ranked opponent with one of the better defenses in the conference and whether or not he gets a chance to play on conference championship weekend. For OSU an upset would be a stunning way to end this era of the rivalry and be its first time winning in Eugene since 2007, also the last time the Beavers won back-to-back meetings.
Oregon offense vs. Oregon State defense
One of the most productive and efficient offenses in the country, Oregon has been nearly unstoppable all season, having scored at least 33 points in every game. Bo Nix is one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Troy Franklin is one of the best receivers in the country and arguably the best in program history. Bucky Irving is one of the best all-around backs in the country. Oregon’s offensive line is allowing the fewest sacks and pressures in the FBS.
However, UO has not faced many defenses as stout as OSU’s or with its ability to cause disruption. Eight Beavers defenders have multiple sacks this season and five have two interceptions. Oregon State’s run defense is more vulnerable than some of its statistics indicate, but when it can create favorite situations on third down its pass defense has been extremely effective, holding opponents to 97.72 pass efficiency with a very low conversion rate on third and 7-plus.
Oregon defense vs. Oregon State offense
Damien Martinez is one of the best backs in the Pac-12 and arguably the best Oregon has faced to date. The Oregon defense, which allowed Oregon State to run its way to a comeback last season, is vastly improved but will only be validated if it contains Martinez and Deshaun Fenwick. OSU’s offensive line limited UCLA to a season-low five tackles for loss but faces a bigger test from UO’s front, specifically in Brandon Dorlus and Jordan Burch.
DJ Uiagaleilei is the best quarterback at OSU since Sean Mannion and makes the Oregon State offense more than in recent years in this game, but Oregon’s defense is also the most talented it has been since at least 2019. The UO secondary will have a vast size advantage against OSU’s receivers, but the strength on strength aspect of this matchup is what will dictate Oregon State’s offensive success.

Matchup to watch: Oregon’s defensive line versus Oregon State’s offensive line
Strength versus strength. Last year, the Beavers absolutely embarrassed the Ducks by running for 268 yards and five touchdowns and scoring 21 straight points. Oregon is better and more talented in the front seven than a year ago, but that won’t matter unless it proves it against Oregon State’s offensive line, which has been one of the best units in the country for the past several years.
Key stat:
Oregon State has scored on its opening drive in nine games this season and is 7-2 in those games and 1-1 in games when it does not score on the opening drive. Oregon has allowed two its opponents to score on their opening drive and neither won.
Prediction: Oregon 35, Oregon State 14
