My goal was to craft a DIY tulip wreath with my huge stash of fabrics. I love Kristi’s pink tulips, so I found several varieties in my pink fabric bin. I love craft projects that make use of what I already have. Here’s how to make a tulip scrap fabric wreath if you’ve got leftover fabrics like me!

Materials Needed

12″ wire wreath form

scrap fabrics

fabric scissors

sticks

hot melt glue gun and glue sticks

Start By Cutting (a lot of) Fabric Petals

Make a cardstock petal template that’s approximately 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″. This is what you will cut around to make the tulip petals.

Cut out 6 petals per flower. Doubling the fabric makes it go a little quicker.

I used a variety of pink patterned and solid fabrics. I added a bit of yellow for a Springtime sunny punch. I’ve had some of these fabrics for 30 years! I am not a quilter, but I love the interplay of different floral and graphic fabrics together. This wreath is a great no-sew way to enjoy fabric in your decor!

Make Scrap Fabric Tulips

Snip 3-4″ sections of twigs for the base of your tulip. Place a 1″ line of hot melt glue on the bottom of a fabric petal. Wrap it around the stick. Continue with a total of 6 petals, creating the look of a flower as you go.

How many flower tulips you need depends on what style wreath you want. I wanted tulips all around like our inspiration photo. It took a lot. Honestly, it would be easier to just have flowers on part of a wreath. And it wouldn’t be as time consuming as mine was with all of the flowers.

Prepare Wreath Form

Wrap wire wreath form with strips of fabric, gluing to start and end. Using one of the flower fabrics for this will give a cohesive look.

Optional: Cut Tulip Leaves

I wanted a bit of green on this wreath to look like the inspiration pic, too. Simply freehand cut sword-like leaf shapes out of green burlap (4-6″). Fold lengthwise to add shape and hot glue one end.

Attach to Wreath Form

Now it’s time to put it all together! Hot glue tulips around wreath, overlapping. Snip off end of sticks for easier placement if needed. (I realized this as I was working) Vary your fabric patterns for interest. Insert leaves every so often, tucking them behind flowers.

Also, decide how you’re going to hang it. I tied a simple length of twine around the top before I glued all the flowers on. At this point, I was thinking it would be cute to just glue flowers to part of the wreath (which is kind of trendy right now). But I kept going to fill the whole wreath, because that was my original idea.

The Finished Tulip Scrap Fabric Wreath

Think I probably spent around 4-6 hours making this. Which is pretty time consuming. But I am happy with the result. This Spring wreath has upcycled cottage charm and will be so fun to decorate with! It’s a fun repurposed take on our inspiration photo.
